USMCA Panel on Rules of Origin in the Automotive Sector

On August 3, the Government of Mexico issued a press release informing that the hearing in the case initiated by Mexico and Canada against the United States regarding the interpretation and application of the Rules of Origin in the Automotive Sector of the Free Trade Agreement between the United States, Mexico and Canada (USMCA) took place on August 2 and 3.

In accordance with the procedural rules contained in Chapter 31 of the USMCA, the next step is for the Panel to issue its Initial Report to the Parties, within 180 days following the appointment of the last panelist (March 22).

As a reminder, the Panel was composed as follows:

Elbio Rosselli (Chair) from Uruguay, appointed by Agreement
Kathleen Claussen from United States, appointed by Canada
Ann Ryan Robertson from United States, appointed by Mexico
Jorge Miranda from Mexico, appointed by United States
Donald McRae from Canada, appointed by United States
